SHELL Gabon and Bolloré Logistics Port-Gentil: A Nearly 10-year Partnership

December 16th, 2016

Established in Gabon since 56 years, Shell, an Anglo-Dutch multinational oil and gas company, set up operations in Port-Gentil in 1997 where it maintains a presence to manage the transit and customs clearance of its imports.

Today, Shell Gabon operates four onshore sites: Gamba, Rabi, Toucan and Koula, having a 60,000 barrels production volume a day, equal to 25% of Gabon's total production of 230,000 barrels a day in 2016.

The Bolloré Logistics Port-Gentil agency recently secured a new comprehensive transit and transport contract with Shell Group, which came into effect on September 1st 2016 for a three-year period, renewable for an additional two years.

In Port-Gentil, 16 agents have been assigned to the Shell unit to handle transit, customs clearance, storage and transport to their feedering ships.

We have 10 transport vehicles including two dedicated to containers’ handling and break bulk cargo, a 160-tons crane, a range of forklifts weighing 7 to 35 tons and two yards, one with an area of 2,000 square meters reserved for containers and ISO tanks and another measuring 9,800 square meters for standard storage.

In November, the logistics base celebrates three years of operation without labour disruption or accident.

Our excellent QHSE performance, achieved thanks to the implementation of a QHSE management system adapted to the needs of Shell and the strong commitment of the operational team, was prized by Shell with an award in 2015 and is currently one of the factors supporting the long-term partnership with Shell.

In fact, ever since the partnership was established in April 2007, Bolloré Logistics has consistently demonstrated its expertise and know-how, through:

  • Its ability to carry out specialised operations involving on-board and on-shore handling, lifting and storage to assist with off-shore drilling activities, with 24/7 integrated supply base services launched in 2013.
  • The large volume handled over the contractual period from April 2012 to March 2016, amounting to 994 TEUs and 39,153 tons handled for seafreight operations and 296 tonnes for airfreight operations.
  • The strength of its international logistics network, offering door-to-door freight forwarding through the involvement of Bolloré Logistics UK for sea operations, Bolloré Logistics Paris CDG for air operations and the Port-Gentil agency for customs clearance and transit. These operational capabilities, leveraged since late 2015 for the handling of Europe/Gabon flows (with bonuses generated), have enabled it to achieve a performance indicator (KPI) score of 100%.
  • The multimodal capacity to handle storage up to the delivery FOB barges Shell from the logistics oil base of Shell / Bolloré Logistics.
The Shell material is reloaded on supply boats in order to feed the offshore drilling rig and barges for Toucan, Koula, Gamba and RABI client production sites.
This service also enabled Bolloré Logistics Port-Gentil to win an exclusive 3-year contract in 2015, renewable twice.

The know-how and dedication demonstrated by Bolloré Logistics in multi-modal transport services has enabled it to renew long-standing commitments going back more than 10 years. These partnerships are expected to continue in line with current positive outlooks.
