In September 2015, SDV Cambodia successfully finalized the delivery of 3,400 MT of break-bulk cargo and a total of 72 full TEUs of containerized cargo to a leading brewing company factory in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The shipment of brewery machineries, grains hoppers, and silos, consisting of 24 out-of-gauge packages and 14 TEUs, traveled safely on a charter vessel from Shanghai (China) to Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam).
One of the biggest challenges during this operation was the transport of oversized items in a safe and economic way.
SDV was involved in this project since the feasibility research had been launched at the end of the year 2014.
SDV Cambodia surveyed the barges’ various capacities and routing obstacles to assist the shipper to determine the packing style and dimensions necessary.
SDV Cambodia also pre-studied this case with the authorities of Phnom Penh New Container Terminal (NCT - recognized as Phnom Penh’s new port for containerized cargo only), in order to obtain their exceptional approval to receive such break bulk cargo via their terminal.
Then, the coordination between SDV Vietnam and Kampuchea Shipping Agency & Brokers (KAMSAB - the Cambodian official authority for the immigration of vessel & barge) was put into motion to get the entrance permit and carry out the river border operation for four barges as well as piloting to NCT via the Mekong River.
There, SDV Cambodia teams handled local handling services including delivery to site in coordination with the Ministry of Interior to arrange that policemen escort the oversized items trucking along the busy national road #1 from NCT to the jobsite. Last but not least, SDV Cambodia offered its technical assistance for the installation of machines.
The full operations were completed in 26 days (port-to-door).
At the same time, more equipment, shipped in 58 TEUs and coming from Antwerp (Belgium) were delivered at Sihanoukville Port (Cambodia) and then to client’s site.
MEURA, a Belgian company specializing in engineering, design, and manufacture of process equipment for breweries and a leading brewing company were very satisfied with the level of service provided by SDV thanks to the efficient coordination between SDV Cambodia, China (Shanghai), Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh Project team), and Belgium teams.
