Regional Express Train Construction Site in Dakar

November 13th, 2018

French company EIFFAGE engaged the services of Bolloré Logistics in the context of the Regional Express Train (TER) construction project that will connect Dakar city center to Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) in less than one hour. The railway will have two lines for passenger transportation, plus an additional line uniquely used for freight transportation. This project is part of the “Emerging Senegal Plan”, launched by the President of the Republic and the Government of Senegal in 2014 for the social and economic development of the country.

In this context, Bolloré Logistics teams in Senegal manage logistics operations of out-of-gauge packages from discharge at port of Dakar through to their delivery to the construction site at Bargny, as well as custom clearance formalities. These packages, coming from Antwerp in Belgium, contain notably 36-meter beams and 34-meter gateways. These pieces will be used for the construction of 11 routing bridges and 16 walkways between Bargny and Diamniadio, in order to limit the use of railroad crossings.

This first batch of six beams, measuring 36 meters in length and weighing 10 tons each, was successfully delivered to the construction site at Bargny on September. This tricky operation required recognized expertise and special equipment for the discharge, such as two cranes of 40 and 50 tons. Two convoys had been scheduled to transport the heavy-lift cargo, requiring an extra-long trailer with a telescoping of 40-meters. Due to the size of the cargo, its transportation was undertaken at night, in order to avoid traffic congestion.

The duration of this contract should extend to the end of June 2019.
