Bolloré Logistics has successfully executed a heavy-lift transport assignment for a leading player of the Power industry. It involved transportation of a consignment of high value geothermal equipment from the port of Mombasa, Kenya, to Olkaria III Geothermal Power Station in Nakuru County, approximately 600 km.
The entire consignment was composed of 17 truckloads of assorted geothermal equipment including 18 Out-Of-Gauge (OOG) units and 15 extra-long units with valid permits, comprising of sensitive units dedicated to the setting up of geothermal plants. The cargo was transported using Bolloré Logistics’ owned fleet of modular trailers (all-steering 4 axle and hydraulic modular trailers) that were highly adapted and made movement into tight road infrastructure easier for OOG cargos up to 19 meters in length. The transport took place from the Port to the Container Freight Station (CFS) and further to final site.
The scope of this transport-only contract involved vessel discharge of the cargo directly from the vessel to truck for shunting to the client’s CFS, from where the cargo was dispatched to the client site in Olkaria. Our client was also given the option of using our Project Yard Container Freight Station (CFS) for two of its heavy unit vaporizers. During transportation, real-time alerts were regularly sent to the client on loading of cargos. Additionally, all small holds up, for instance at Port exit due to administrative procedures, were carefully explained.
This new operation thus reaffirms our specific know-how in the Power industry and confirms our good command on the logistics of highly sensitive equipment.
