 The State of Qatar is an independent emirate of the Gulf region. Covering an area of more than 11,500 km2, extending from the Arabian Peninsula into the Persian Gulf. Led by Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the country has a population of 2.7 million of inhabitants.

Due to its great oil reserves and their strategic exploitation, Qatar is also part of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) since 1961. The country indeed beneficiates from the third largest natural gas reserves in the world, which has made it’s citizen the world’s richest per capita, for over a decade.


In 2018, Qatar’s government spending is expected to reach 203.2 billion riyals ($56 billion), up 2.4 percent from the budget plan, with revenue climbing 2.9 percent to 175.1 billion riyals. Brent oil is now reaching $65 compared with the year’s average of about $54. If current prices hold in 2019; Qatar’s deficit could be smaller than projected. In 2019, the Qatari government is expected to award 29 billion riyals ($7.9 billion of contracts to support growth in the private sector, part of a drive to diversify and strengthen the economy in the lead up to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
