In February and March 2016, the Industrial Projects’ teams of Bolloré Logistics France shipped four heaters* on behalf of one of the French leaders in the production and supply of electricity, by road from Magenta (Region of Milan), in Italy, to Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône (Ile de France Region) in France.
Bolloré Logistics’ teams ensured the reception of the four heaters at the manufacturer factory in Magenta, followed by the loading and stowage in two extendable lowbed trailers.
These heavy-lift parcels were then transported to the customer warehouse located at nearly 1,000 km from the factory.
The unloading of the heaters took place using hydraulic portals, in accordance with the specificities of the parts.
Operations of stowage on the trailers mobilized all the attention. Indeed, heaters, only installed and maintained on wooden cradles, had to be grabbed by additional means using straps, chains & specific ropes to compensate front to back and side movements of convoys running.
In total, four packages of 294 tons were loaded and transported on four trailers.
The first two heaters (17,900 L x 4,000 W x 2,600 H mm) of 70.5 Tons each were the subject of an exceptional convoy on two trailers.
The two other heaters (13,850 L x 3,340 W x 3,240 H mm) of 76.5 tons were also transported through another exceptional convoy of two trailers.
Thanks to a close collaboration with the Industrial Project teams of Bolloré Logistics in Italy, from the communication with the provider, including the monitoring of loads and administrative procedures, such shipments were met with great success.
*Inside an electrical power plant (thermal or nuclear), the heaters are heat exchangers that preheat water before sending it in the steam generator where it will be transformed into steam. The steam produces electricity by entering in the turbines and then in the alternator.
