Bolloré Logistics Angola was chosen a few months ago by one of its customer, a large international offshore drilling company to store part of his equipment. A total of 200 drilling risers have been kept under close custody in our 36,000 sqm secured yard for a few months.
In late September 2016, a major operation, consisting in the transportation of a set of 20 units out of our facilities to the port, was organized.
Bolloré Logistics Angola teams managed different operations to move the risers; the loading on trucks & the transport from the yard to the port, and then supervised the unloading from trucks and boarding onto vessels.
The material was then shipped by boat from Lobito to Soyo, to reach his final destination: the important Bloc17 of Girassol well. Girassol is one of the main production areas of the four floating production, storage and removal of petroleum (FPSO) of Block 17 in deepwater offshore 210 km off the Angolan coast.
The handling operations took several hours, to carefully move the drilling risers, each weighing about 23 tons for approximately 23 to 29 meters long.
All operations were performed by Bolloré Logistics staff and equipment; about 11 people from Lobito agency were involved in transportation, handling and QHSE operations.
The handling has been achieved using a lifting equipment capacity of 45 tons and appropriate straps. The transport until pier has been made with 2 trailers expandable up to 30 meters.
This operation underlines Bolloré Logistics specific expertise to the petroleum industry, which is very active in Angola.
