SDV Successfully Manages the Shipment of a Next Generation Helicopter Mock-Up to Zhuhai Airshow

February 6th, 2015

SDV Beijing and SDV Milano worked together and successfully managed the shipment of a helicopter mock-up (AC3X2) never shipped before.

The mock-up, ordered by Avicopter Corporation Limited, a large state-owned enterprise under direct administration of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), was expected in Zhuhai at the Airshow for their premiere worldwide presentation.

Considering this mock-up was newly manufactured, SDV had no reference data beforehand to carry out the preliminary studies. SDV not only had to organize traditional transportation, but most importantly had to perform prior technical studies of the mock-up in order to provide tailored services to the customer in terms of dismantling and qualified packages.

SDV Italia was able to provide a full range of services to the client including the engineering of wooden crates, on-site customs clearing, crating and transport to Malpensa airport on Sunday night due to the rush in production.

The main body of the helicopter was shipped on its own covered by two layers of special plastic materials, while the tail and other parts were being shipped in wooden crates. To ensure a clean loading of the helicopter model on board of a Boeing B747-400F, SDV Italia conducted an on-site inspection together with the assistance of the airline operation manager and the technicians in charge of packaging.

Once arrived in Hong Kong, SDV Beijing took care of the customs declaration and organized an air-ride truck to successfully deliver the mock-up to the Zhuhai Airshow where it was installed and fixed at the client’s booth. After the event, SDV Beijing also took over the operations by dismantling the model, repacking it with special plastic materials and transporting it back.
