SDV Provides Transportation in the Transquadra Race

April 23rd, 2015

On March 1st, 2nd and 3rd of this year, SDV La Rochelle ensured the return of 41 sailboats from Marin, in Martinique, to Lorient, France, at the end of Transquadra race, the only transatlantic solo and double race for amateurs 40 years old and over.

Boats were loaded on a conventional ship 168 m long and 25 m wide for a crossing that lasted nine days. Fragile competition boats of types JPK 1010, JPK 960 and Sun Fast 3200 mainly, were loaded and the masts were stepped at the request of the customers; a condition which limits the handling but makes the transport more delicate.

Thus, a particular attention was required for the loading and the lashing of boats which were positioned on cradles, welded and strapped to the bridge cargo boat. Three cranes were necessary to load and unload the boats and the handling was carried out by the ship’s crew, chosen for its ability to manage this type of sensitive operations. The supervision of operations was placed under the responsibility of Stéphane Maçon, Branch Manager at SDV La Rochelle and specialist in the transport of boats, with the assistance of a local expert.

Beside the transportation of 41 sailboats, including the winner of the race, SDV, along with a local partner organized the reception, the parking and the routing of boats from the Marina to the cargo ship.

SDV La Rochelle also cooperated with SDV Martinique team which organized the transport of equipment from Fort de France to Marin.

With this new operation, SDV confirms its nautical expertise acquired in all areas of this sector over 30 years of experience. Today, SDV La Rochelle claims more than 500 units transported every year.
