The International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine World Ski Championships 2015 were held from February 2 – 15 in the United States, at Vail/Beaver Creek, Colorado. SDV Denver was selected by AMR Group, a specialist in events logistics, to provide logistical support for the event.
The German, Russian, American, Swiss, Polish and Swedish ski teams utilized SDV Denver’s services to transport equipment including: skis, boots, bindings, poles, tools, racing course gates and exercise bikes.
SDV Denver provided the necessary support and coordinated customs formalities, and documentation, including processing of multiple ATA carnets. Special inside deliveries, including unpacking, were made with White-Glove delivery service to the resort. At the conclusion of the event, SDV Denver arranged export of material back to Europe of 15 tons of equipment, by air, for future FIS events.
This was SDV Denver’s first time supporting a sporting event, a rapidly growing sector. Transporting materials to sporting events represents a special kind of challenge as several locations may be involved and timeliness is clearly critical. As such, the event required a full time employee dedicated to this project, which involved multiple ski teams and locations. The timing was tight because all the equipment had to be delivered to the mountain in time for each race. SDV Denver also had to find the right capacity and availability from air carriers at time of export, which sometimes required split shipments.
There is little room for delays or other problems in such operations and SDV Denver managed to cleanly pass all of these gates in qualifying time!
