Iceland's Bardarbunga Volcano Eruption Threat

September 15th, 2014 - The risk of an eruption of the Bardarbunga volcano in Iceland could disrupt air traffic to and from Europe.

Today, operational conditions remain normal. However, SDV would like to keep customers informed while developing solutions to ensure the continuity of operations.

According to the Icelandic Meteorological Office, at present the aviation code (ICAO) is 'orange', meaning that the Bardardunga volcano shows heightened or escalating unrest with increased potential of eruption. The next aviation code level is 'red': eruption is imminent or in progress - significant emission of ash into atmosphere likely. This could imply a partial or total closure of European airspace.
